Homes in Haiti
Even prior to the earthquake that leveled much of Haiti, Lincoln Square Presbyterian Church (LSPC) in Chicago has been partnering with El Shaddai Ministries International (ESMI) in caring for the needs of the Haitian people through the churches, orphanages, schools, microbusinesses and medical clinics they build and operate. Since the earthquake, EMSI has increased the scope of its ministry to include building homes for some of Haiti’s most vulnerable victims of the quake and for the pastors ministering to the needs of impacted communities.

We at LSPC have been working closely with ESMI to create a plan for providing permanent housing for victims of the earthquake. We will continue to support the rebuilding effort by sending volunteers to help with construction, coordinating US construction experts to provide training for local Haitian contractors, and by raising funds to pay for construction materials.

Currently, the most urgent need for the reconstruction effort is funds to pay for construction materials for the homes. Each home will cost approximately $4000, and that will include the cost of all materials and the hiring of local Haitian labor to assemble the homes. ESMI is planning to build 300 homes in communities surrounding Port-au-Prince, and we are hoping to raise enough money to cover the cost of building 2 of these homes ($8000).
